Twelve Years Until Armageddon (and counting)

Three years ago, on January 22, 2019, newly elected Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), that beacon of brilliance from New York, proclaimed:

“The world is going to end in twelve years if we don’t address climate change.”

Two-thirds of Democrats, including many high-ranking elected officials and presidential contenders, believed Representative Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) claim. A poll by Rasmussen of 1,000 likely voters, conducted on May 20/21, 2019 found that 67 percent of likely Democrat voters said they agreed with AOC’s claim.

Following her claim of impending Armageddon, AOC and Senator Ed Markey (Democrat, MA) introduced their “Green New Deal”, a plan to save the planet from certain doom by totally restructuring the American economy within a decade.

Both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris (then both Democrat candidates for president), endorsed the Green New Deal and subsequently made it part of the Harris-Biden agenda (no, not the Biden-Harris agenda), but never releasee any details of how they planned to implement the estimated $93 Trillion program.

Fortunately for the rest of us, Congress is, after the United Nations, the most useless and inefficient organization on Earth, and thanks to Senators Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema, has not yet succeeded in passage of any legislation in support of the Green New Deal, with the key word being YET!

AOC’s claim was based upon a United Nations (UN) “Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C”, released in October, 2018. The report mentions the year 2030 – 12 years from the date of publication – as the point of no return. According to the UN:

“The report finds that limiting global warming to 1.5ºC would require ‘rapid and far-reaching’ transitions in land, energy, industry, buildings, transport, and cities. Global net human-caused emissions of carbon dioxide, would need to fall by about 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030, reaching ‘net zero’ around 2050.”

The UN further predicts a 5- to 9-degree Celsius temperature rise by the end of this century if we don’t take drastic measures now, with some climate scientists claiming that climate could lead to “a collapse of our civilization and the extinction of much of the natural world.”

What I find interesting is that we have been hearing such dire predictions for over 30 years and not a single one has come true.

Even more interesting is an article published in the UK newspaper The Independent on October 6, 2020 about a new scientific study looking for new “superhabitable” worlds that would be even more likely to foster life than our own Earth. In that study, scientists stated:

“Superhabitable planets would also likely have a little more water than Earth, especially if it was kept as moisture. Being slightly warmer would also make a planet more habitable, with an ideal temperature of about 5 degrees Celsius (9 degrees Fahrenheit) hotter than Earth thought to be the biggest improvement.” (emphasis added)

So, on the one hand we have AOC and the UN report telling us we are all going to die if we don’t limit global warming to 1.5 degrees C over the next twelve years, while on the other hand we have a scientific study telling us that the ideal temperature for humans is 5 degrees Celsius hotter than Earth’s current temperature.

Oh, I am so confused. What ever will I do?

I don’t know about you, but while the Democrats struggle to figure out how to implement their Green New Deal, I think I’ll go stock up on beer before they decide to quadruple the tax on it as a way to pay for their (wet) dream.

Then, while all of the “true believers” are dying from stress over worrying about climate change, I can lay back and relax while drinking a cold one, content that I have done everything I can do to prepare for an Armageddon that will always be 12 years away.
