One of my great passions in life is reading, and as I get older, I find it more enjoyable now than ever. I read every day, starting with the news in the morning and ending with a book in the evening before I turn the light off to go to sleep. I don’t know just how many books I’ve read in my lifetime, but I’m sure it’s in the thousands, if not tens of thousands.
I enjoy reading many types of books, but probably enjoy reading history books and historical novels the most. There is something about the past I find fascinating, and I am continually amazed at how often it mirrors the present.
It is often said that those who ignore the past are condemned to repeat it. Sadly, I fear that young people today are not interested in learning about the past, and even worse, our radicalized schools are not interested in teaching it unless they teach “their” version of it.
As a result, we appear to be headed down a path that is leading us back into the dark ages, to a place our ancestors fought and died to escape from, to a place where liberty and freedom does not exist, to a place where there are only two classes of people – the ruling elites and those who serve them.
I decided to start writing this blog as my way of helping, if even in a very small way, to prevent this from occurring, to speak up for those who can’t or won’t speak up for themselves. If we do not stop what is happening today, the past will most assuredly become the future tomorrow.
But as I sat here this morning, contemplating what I should write about today, it came to me that one of best the ways I could help was to encourage others to read and educate themselves, to ensure that they have the knowledge and understanding required to make the hard decisions they will have to make in the future.
After thinking about it a little longer, I decided, as a starting point, to provide a list of documents and books that I would recommend that everyone read. You may be surprised by the list, because several of the books are counter to what I believe in and advocate for. But to make sound decisions, you have to know both sides of the argument, so I have included books and documents from both sides, accordingly.
Herewith are 25 books and documents that I recommend everyone read. Some are fascinating, some are tedious, some are short and some are long. All are relevant to what is going on today. And all are worth the time to read. I hope each of you will take the time to read as many of these as you can.
